CARNAVAL BRESILIEN: 1930-56

During the first fifty years of the twentieth century, carnival music crystallized Brazil’s identity. The Marchinhas, sambas and frevos helped to bond the social classes and open Brazil to modern means of communication. Our anthology principally considers what was known as ‘a epoca de ouro’, a period lasting over twenty years and which witnessed a melting pot of talented singers, composers, lyricists and arrangers.
